Renault Twingo is Renault's French miniautomobil mainly addressed to the city. Was introduced in 1992 at the Paris Motor Show Mondial de l'Automobile and its production started in 1993. Due to non-traditional design quickly became popular throughout Europe.

The first generation

Renault Twingo proposed by Renault chief designer Patrick le Quément. Given the somewhat resembles a Polish prototype Beskid, which said the proposal was based. Twingo name was a combination of words, Twist, Swing and Tango, which should promote an attractive image of the vehicle.

The dashboard was just the beginning of production equipped with speedometer, fuel meter, clock and trip odometer that could be erased by pressing the end of the steering column. The car had a sliding rear seats.

The entire first generation Twingo was equipped with four-cylinder gasoline engine. The first engine became available 1.2-liter 55 hp (41 kW) engine, later replaced by bool 1.2 liter engine with a 60 hp (45 kW). Another engine, supplied since 2000, had a capacity of 75 hp (56 kW).

Council vehicle parts have in common with other Twingo Renault cars.

The first generation Renault Twingo is produced in the years 1993 - 2007, which is much longer than the usual seven-year cycle of individual models. During this time the Twingo has undergone a facelift three times, in 1998, 2000 and 2004.

Twingo is produced in France since 1992 and in Colombia and Uruguay from 1999 to 2002. First generation in Flins in France was halted 28th June 2007, the sofas in Colombia, the vehicle is produced for the South American market today. Altogether 30 June produced 2,478,648 cars

Electric Version

Electric version of the Renault Twingo was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006 and used the Zebra battery.

Timeline

• April 1993 - Start of production of one version of the four colors as the price of 55 000 FF
• June 1994 - new paint and minor changes in the interior
• October 1994 - model with semi-automatic gearbox
• September 1995 - Twingo Easy - the first of many special editions, available airbags
• July 1996 - new 1149 cc engine from the Renault Clio replace the existing engine from the Renault 5, a number of improvements including third brake light
• July 1998 - the first major reconstruction - interior trim and dashboard and also the front and rear lights
• September 2000 - the second conversion - large 14 "wheels, modified with larger door pockets, before the control lever handle for drinking
• December 2000 - 1.2-liter 16-valve engine that generates 75 hp
• April 2001 - semi-automatic gearbox Quickshift
• September 2002 - new interior and wheel covers
• September 2004 - the third modification
• June 2007 - Production and sales in France ended, replaced by second-generation Twingo

Second generation

The second generation Renault Twingo suggested as first-generation vehicle chief designer Patrick le Quément car. The car was unveiled to the public in 2006 at the Paris Motor Show Mondial de l'Automobile. It is built on the chassis Renault Clio MK II, with increased emphasis on passenger safety.

Second-generation vehicles, from 2007 produced in Slovenia.
